Clinical Indications HLA-B27 is strongly associated with the disease Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). Although HLA-B27 is present in approximately 10 % of the normal population, it is found in 88-96 % of patients with AS making a positive B27 result a useful diagnostic indicator for AS. It is also associated with other rheumatological disorders, including Reiter's syndrome.
