The laboratory employs a number of alternative assay systems with varying sensitivity and clinical significance. In most cases, routine screening will be performed using one, or a combination, of complement dependent cytotoxicity, ELISA, flow cytometry or Luminex technology. Post transplant monitoring is usually performed using the Luminex Single Antigen (SA) analysis, a powerful technique used to detect the presence of donor-specific antibodies (DSA).
Used for the detection and characterisation of lymphocytotoxic antibodies in patients awaiting renal or pancreas transplant, or those who have received a transplant. Also used in the investigation of transfusion reactions. For renal/pancreas recipients, patient antibody profiles are maintained by the laboratory.
Serum (red top) preferred, SST (gold top) acceptable
