Test Background CCP antibodies may be detected in healthy people long before they have clinical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In both early and established RA, the test for CCP antibodies is more specific than that for rheumatoid factor (RF). CCP antibodies predict the eventual development of undifferentiated arthritis into RA, and are also a marker of erosive joint disease in RA. In conjunction with RF, anti-CCP offers greatly increased specificity for RA.
Clinical Indications Differential diagnosis of arthritis.
