Test Background
Acetoacetate is a ketone body derived from fatty acid metabolism that accumulates in carbohydrate deficient states and in diabetic ketoacidosis.


Clinical Indications
Investigation of hypoglycaemia in suspected fatty acid oxidation defects and ketoacidosis.

Notes
A separate sample for beta-hydroxybutyrate should be taken at the same time.
