Microbiology specimen handling automation is set to revolutionise the way Microbiology operates.
It brings the concept of the blood sciences track to the 4th floor at Charing Cross! The microbiology track moves samples and culture plates around the Microbiology laboratory from inoculation, through incubation and finally to digital imaging for the scientists to read. The system is set to revolutionise how microbiology staff work, making the service fit for the future.
The project has been in the planning stage for 5 years and the managment team have been setting up processes and structures that will simplify the transition and ease the implementation process.
Equipment is being delivered to Microbiology department at the Charing Cross site this week.
Installation will take 3 weeks and will be followed by a three month implementation programme. Patients and users of the Microbiology service should not see any disruption through the change.
